ABOUT THE SONG

In "Racing in the Street", Bruce Springsteen sings about glory nights spent running his customised 1969 Chevy in illegal drag races for spare cash. It's more than a fun, paying pastime -- it's a way of life, a guard against "dying little by little, piece by piece".

He falls for a girl who's riding with one of the hotrodders he beats ("I blew that Camaro off my back and drove that little girl away"), they end up getting married -- but he stays married to the Chevy too. It's not going to work out.
