Poem

T'was the night before Christmas,
And all through the house,
Not a creature was stirring
Except for one creeping as quiet as a mouse.

Mama was working,
Before going to bed,
To make her children believe,
Santa had been there instead.

No one to see her stack the presents,
Under the tree with care,
Not even the cat,
Fast asleep on the chair.

Tomorrow the little ones,
Would wake with such wonder and joy,
Dashing to see what Christmas brings,
For the good girls and boys.

She will watch as they rush to unravel their gifts,
Careful wrapping undone with a rip and a tear,
Squeals of delight ring out as toys are revealed,
Yes, Santa got it right, again, this year.

Off they will race, or maybe skip,
Never one thinking, not even a bit,
That it wasn't Santa, but mama,
Who'd done it.
Yes, my rhyming sucks. But hey, it was stuck in my head for hours, so suffer along with me.
