One of the deadly Sirens, who's lovely, haunting songs lured many an unspecting seaman to their deaths. Best known for their apparence in the story of Odysseus, many other cultures have tales of the sirens as well. Sirens continued to be used as a symbol for the dangerous temptations emodbied by women regularly throughout Christian art of the medieval era. Even up into the 17th century, some Jesuit writers began to assert their actual existence.*
